Fire Pump Replacement Update
As many of you know, FSL’s fire pump replacement began in April 2023 after an internal fire severely damaged the original system—so much so that a full rebuild was required. This launched a complex, months-long effort involving engineers, safety experts, and close coordination with LADBS, LAFD, and City agencies to design and install a brand-new, code-compliant system from the ground up. We’re now in the final stretch. The new pump is fully installed, and we’re completing third-party testing, submitting final documents, and preparing for official inspections to secure our certificate of compliance. Importantly, our insurance has covered most of the costs, helping preserve HOA reserves and shielding residents from additional financial impact. While the process took longer than expected, the result is a modernized, fully certified fire safety system—and we deeply appreciate your patience and support throughout.

FSL Safety & Access Are Getting Smarter
As part of our commitment to modernization and safety, Flower Street Lofts is advancing a major security upgrade. This includes new high-definition cameras along Flower Street, the Alley, and Mural walls, replacement of outdated units, and a full overhaul of our access control systems. Both entrances will feature smart intercoms to streamline guest and delivery access. Driven by the Board in collaboration with the FSL Security & Access Committee—led by Mike Fullerton with key contributions from Bernard Chang, Priscilla Rojas-Naiman, and others—this initiative reflects a smart, community-powered approach. Mike also serves as our liaison to the South Park Neighborhood Association Safety Working Group and the South Park BID, helping ensure our upgrades are aligned with district-wide best practices. This work places FSL at the forefront of regional safety enhancements alongside efforts by LAPD, AEG, the LA Convention Center, USC, and Dignity Health. With global events like the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, 2026 World Cup, 2027 NCAA Final Four, and 2028 Olympics on the horizon, we’re proud to be preparing FSL and South Park for a safer, smarter, and more secure future.

Plumbing Reminder: Flush P-Traps
As we’ve mentioned in past editions of DISTRIBUTION, it’s important for all residents to regularly flush their unit’s plumbing system to help prevent unpleasant odors and pests. The “P-trap” (the curved section of pipe beneath sinks, tubs, toilets, and showers) is designed to hold a small amount of water that blocks sewer gases from entering your home. However, when a fixture isn’t used regularly, the water in the P-trap can evaporate, creating a pathway for smells and even insects to make their way into your unit. To keep things flowing properly, we recommend running water in all sinks and tubs for about 30 to 60 seconds each month, flushing every toilet a couple of times, and pouring a cup of water into any unused drains, like those in laundry areas or floor drains. It’s a simple routine that goes a long way toward keeping your space fresh and pest-free.
